ABOUT ME
BACKGROUND
I was born in January 1993 and raised in London. I have lived in this glorious city all my life and love everything about it - except the traffic! I am of mixed ancestry as my mother is Ghanaian and my father is of German, English and Irish descent. My hobbies include reading, playing the piano, listening to music and playing sports.
EDUCATION & WORK
I received 11 GCSEs including 5 A*s and completed my A-levels in June 2011, receiving 3 A's in Theatre Studies, History and German. I also received an A at AS level English. I am currently taking a gap year and have a part time job working in the retail division of one of the largest and most admired companies in the world. I am planning and making short films in my time off.
FILM
What captivates me most about film is its incredible versatility as an art form. It has the ability to be both incredibly pictorial and yet equally abstract in nature. Within film there exists an almost paradoxical sense of both tangibility and intangibility and it is this enigmatic nature which first drew me to it.
One of my favourite films has to be Superman (1978). Such was my love for the Superman film franchise, that the very first screenplay I wrote was a sequel to Superman Returns when I was 14. I can't really explain what it isabout the film that makes it so special to me; I suppose it goes back to the fact that film possess an enigmatic quality, but it really made me want to make films myself. I just loved the idea of suspending my disbelief for 2 hours as I watched a flying man from outer space save the world. That momentary detachment from reality in which I could forget everything else and focus on something completely new was a great experience. I realised that an hour of two of healthy engagement in wholesome entertainment does wonders for the mind and I knew that I wanted to recreate that experience for other people with my own films.
My work tends to be more psychoanalytical than anything else, however I do also enjoy the genres of sci-fi, human drama and action-adventure.
My influences include Alfred Hitchcock, Chris Nolan, Stanley Kubrick, Darren Aronofsky and Tom Hooper.
